Wedding that took the cake.

A COUPLE yesterday told of their anger after a nightmare wedding, when staff at an upmarket hotel prepared a buffet for only a handful of their 100 guests - then threw out the wedding cake.

Newlyweds Emma and Ronald Gilmour, of Cowie, Stirlingshire, could not believe bungling waiters at the Stirling Highland Hotel later dumped some of their pounds 250 wedding cake in the bin as they thought it was too dry.

Tearful Emma, 21, said: "I got through the reception without crying because I was so angry but when I found out about the cake, I lost it."

The couple were then offered pounds 250 compensation but the hotel got their name wrong on the cheque.

Deputy manager Morag Morgan said they threw out the cake because it had become "unpalatable" but apologised for the buffet.

She said: "With the buffet, we got it wrong. Any mistakes have been corrected. The Gilmours got compensation."
