Wedding sham plea is changed.

A SHAM wedding suspect facing jail has won a legal bid to withdraw her courtroom confession.

Foreign student Chimezie Emeronye was told to expect prison after admitting conspiracy to assist in unlawful immigration.

Prosecutors claimed the 25-year-old from Nigeria tried to marry a man she had never even spoken to as part of the plot.

But Emeronye went back to Newcastle Crown Court claiming she had felt pressured to enter her guilty plea last month. And after considering written arguments, Judge Brian Forster found in her favour.

"I give leave for the plea to be withdrawn and for the avoidance of any doubt the defendant will be re-arraigned," Judge Forster said. "I will allow her to change her plea."

The charge was then read to her again and she denied conspiracy between March 2010 and January this year.

A further hearing will be held next month to fix a date for the trial.
