Weblogging Leader Six Apart Strengthens Management Team and Acquires European Blogging Company; New Executive Hires Signal Momentum for Six Apart and Blogging Market.

SAN MATEO, Calif., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Weblog software leader Six Apart, developers of Movable Type and TypePad, today announced that it has expanded its management team and continues to build out its global presence. Six Apart has added three well-regarded executives known for their industry expertise and experience: Barak Berkowitz, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman; Andrew Anker, Executive Vice President of Corporate Development and Loic Le Meur, Executive Vice president and General Manager of Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Six Apart also acquired Ublog, the provider of one of Europe's leading blogging tools and hosting services. As the exclusive agent for Six Apart over the last six months, Ublog has helped solidify Six Apart's position as a leader in the blogging industry, extending its products and services to European end-users. Already deployed in France and Spain, SixApart's TypePad service will be launched in Germany next week, and in the UK by this fall.

Mena Trott, Six Apart's co-founder and president, said she and company co- founder Benjamin Trott wanted to bring executive bench strength to the company in order to fulfill their vision for the company. "Ben and I want Six Apart to reach the goal we envisioned when we first started the company: to build and grow a successful company with the best suite of weblogging tools and services. At the same time we have always wanted to surround ourselves with individuals who share a similar expertise and passion for the space. We believe that we have found those qualities in the carefully chosen executives who are joining Six Apart."

Six Apart's executive team hires include:

Barak Berkowitz is a member of Six Apart's Board of Directors and has been acting CEO for the last six months. Barak has over 20 years of experience in general management, sales and marketing of consumer technology products. Prior to his position as CEO and Chairman of Six Apart, he was co-founder and President of OmniSky, the wireless Internet innovator which went public in 2000 and was later acquired by Earthlink. Previously he has served as Executive Vice President and General Manager at the Go Network and built it into one of the top five Web portals at the time uniting the Web properties of Infoseek.Com, Disney, ABC, ESPN and many others. Before the Go Network, Barak served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Americas for Logitech and also held key roles at Apple Computer and Macy's, as well as being the Founder of MarketCentrix, a technology strategy consultancy.

Andrew Anker is a Silicon Valley veteran with experience in two prior startups, including Wired Digital, a pioneering Internet news and media organization. Andrew was the co-founder and CEO of Wired Digital and built into it one of the 20 largest networks of Web sites with such properties as HotBot, Wired News and HotWired. Prior to joining Six Apart as Executive Vice President of Corporate Development, Andrew was a general partner with August Capital where he invested in such consumer internet companies as Tickle (recently purchased by Monster) and Listen.com (creators of Rhapsody, now owned by Real Networks). Andrew spent his early career as an investment banker focusing on the media, technology and communications industries.

Loic Le Meur is a well-known French entrepreneur and founder and CEO of Ublog, one of Europe's leading blogging tools providers and hosting services. Prior to his appointment as Six Apart's Executive Vice President and General Manager of Six Apart EMEA, Loic founded and served as CEO for several companies in France, including Tekora, an ASP-driven Web site publisher for small businesses; RapidSite France, the first shared Web hosting company launched in France, which was sold to France Telecom and integrated into their Wanadoo offering; and B2L, one of the first Web agencies launched in France, with clients including Chanel, 20th Century Fox, Mars and other major brands, which was sold to BBDO, a leading advertising group.

Rounding out the global management team, Six Apart added executive hires earlier this year including Nobuhiro Seki as Executive Vice President and Country Manager of Japan, and Daiji Hirata as Vice President of Technology for Japan. Six Apart Japan has licensed the TypePad service to NTT Communications OCN, Fujitsu NIFTY Serve and Hitachi Ltd. for private labeled services. In addition, the Six Apart subsidiary recently launched a TypePad branded service for Japanese users.

"Blogging is changing the Internet, by empowering anyone to use the Web as a communications tool to reach any audience from private postings for family and friends to entering discussions with huge audiences worldwide," said Berkowitz. "The caliber of our entire organization, along with Six Apart's award-winning products and approachable corporate culture, has made us a leader in this exciting space. We aim to continue to innovate, making our tools even more powerful and approachable as our business grows while remaining rooted in the weblogging community."
