Wear it like the stars.

Your look in class and rehearsal can speak volumes. Many dancers turn to their idols for inspiration in style as well as performance. There's no harm in paying homage to your favorite performer--wearing a scarf around your head like Makarova or a hat like Nureyev. "Dancers spend a lot of time looking in the mirror, so wear something that makes you feel good about your body," says Atlanta Ballet's Brian Wallenberg. Even in a room full of dancers, you can individualize your style with funky graphic T-shirts or by dressing in all black and slicking back your hair a la Audrey Hepburn. Just don't let your look distract from your dancing and your technique! DANCE MAGAZINE chose several dancers with their own distinctive style, and then found outfits that emulate their look. Top students from Juilliard are modeling our finds (shown here with their suggested retail prices).
