Weakened UK under threat; Letters.

SINCE the election resulted in a weakened government without a Write to: Letters, The Journal, Groat Market, Newcastle, NE1 1ED Email: jnl.letters@ncjmedia.co.uk majority, there is much speculation about how long it will last and how long the PM will remain in post.

I remember Emmanuel Shinwell describe the 360-year-old Tory party, the oldest political part in the world, as a cruel party. This sentiment was re-echoed by Winston Churchill who is on record as saying that "all bad leaders should be pole-axed".

To test the truth of these remarks cast your mind back over the last 30 years and note which heads have rolled - Margaret Thatcher, Major, Duncan Smith, Howard and Cameron. The present situation poses an existentialist threat as a weakened UK will have little leverage in the Brexit talks. We have most of western Europe and a fair chunk of eastern Europe arraigned against us.
