We don't want to make the same album three times over; Music By Andy Coleman.

GENERAL Fiasco are making a sparkling start to the new decade with a new single, debut album and their biggest UK tour that plays Birmingham O2 Academy tomorrow.

The single, Ever So Shy, was released on Monday and the album, Buildings, follows on March 22.

The Northern Irish trio of brothers Owen and Enda Strathern and drummer Stephen Leacock spent 2009 on the road playing headline shows, support tours with the likes of The Enemy and The Answer, and performing at festivals such as Download and Glastonbury.

They also signed to Infectious Music and released the single, We Are The Foolish.

The guys are determined to have a long musical career.

''We've no intention of being the same band for three albums,'' asserts singer and bassist Owen. ''I want us to progress. Obviously you'd love to end up like a Death Cab For Cutie where you write really smart pop-based songs but what we've done is never be contrived.'' Owen was due to go to university after completing school in 2006 but instead decided to dedicate a year to becoming a rock star.

He wrote songs and roped in his brother and schoolfriend Stephen Leacock to form General Fiasco. Their first gig was at Northern Ireland's biggest unsigned music festival, Glasgowbury 2007.

''The high was playing Stornaway,'' Owen recalls. 'We played in a cafe and it was bananas!'' The album was recorded in the summer.
