Byline: with Nicola Methven & Mark Jefferies

MOVE over Midsomer Murders - former EastEnder Jo Joyner is to star alongside Waterloo Road's Mark Benton in a new BBC1 rural mystery drama.

They will play private investigators Lu Shakespeare and Frank Hathaway in the 10-parter, set in the Bard's hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon. While Hathaway is a hard-boiled ex-detective, Lu is a rookie. But their unlikely pairing works as they delve into the varied secrets of Warwickshire's residents.

These include celebrity stalkers, murderous magicians, and embezzling accountants. Benton tells us: "As soon as I read the script, I wanted to play Hathaway. He's a chaotic and old fashioned but lovable detective. Frank and Lu are a real odd couple but they quickly become the perfect duo."

Joyner adds: "Lu is quick-witted, inquisitive, warm and friendly. I'm thrilled to be working with Mark."

BBC daytime drama boss Will Trotter says the series will be escapist and full of charm. Filming starts this week, to air next year.
