We bought a 3 piece suite on hols but lost it.. please send the insurance money; 10 MILLION DODGY CLAIMS.
HEARD the one about the man who claimed he bought a three-piece suite on holiday but lost it on the way home?
Or the woman who took out insurance AFTER her holiday flight was cancelled but still tried to claim on the policy.
And then there's the man who said muggers stole his suitcase full of clothes ...but sent in receipts showing his waist size ranged from 34 to 44. These are among the TEN MILLION dodgy insurance claims put in by British holidaymakers every year - which cost the industry more than pounds 50million and put up the cost of cover for everyone. Insurers Direct Line say five per cent of holidaymakers own up to making a false claim. Another 15 per cent admit adding non-existent extra items to a genuine claim. Direct Line's business manager Chris Rice said: "We deal with thousands of travel claims each year, most of which are genuine. But it is worrying to see so many people don't think twice about making a spurious claim."
Malcolm Tarling, of the Association of British Insurers, said: "This is an ongoing battle for travel insurers, but we are determined to stamp out bogus and inflated claims to protect honest policyholders."
