We are ECLECTIC; Mix shabby chic with an ethnic vibe for the perfect eclectic bedroom.

Byline: Compiled by: Zena Alli

Make it work for you...

FOR a perfect match, mix the rough-and-ready but pretty elements of shabby chic with the intricate patterns and pink/purple palette of the ethnic feel. Let's call it 'shethnic'...

SUSPEND a large glass pendant light shade from a rustic ceiling. It's like eating a saveloy and chips straight from the bag while wearing a ballgrown - just has to be done at times.

DON'T be a perfectionist. Things don't have to be precise in the 'shethnic' world. Hang a rough hewn branch as a curtain pole, use all shades of purple, not just one - from plum to berry and heather - and choose handmade crafts for their unique imperfections.

PAINT the interior of a wardrobe or drawers in a striking shade - it's these little details that turn the ordinary into extraodinary.

FILTER the sunlight with floating muslin panels.

RECYCLE old blankets, curtains or much-loved clothing by cutting them up and turning the scraps into a patchwork throw.

USE cushions to decorate the bed. You can also scatter them on the floor when extra seating is needed.

MIX ethnic prints and embroidery with stripes and colour-block.

LAY a combination of plain and patterned rugs around your room. You can never have enough and you an even overlap them.

TURN to the colour range created by natural dyes - ochre, turquoise, reds and browns.
