We're on the sauce here... HP ale!

YOU'VE joined the campaign, got the T-shirt - now drink the drink at a Birmingham pub which has brewed a special beer in support of HP sauce. The Save Our Sauce ale has gone on sale at the Wellington, in Bennetts Hill, and was developed to look and taste as close as possible to the real thing.

Licensee Nigel Barker, aged 47, brewed the new ale as a show of support to the 125 HP workers in Aston who are set to lose their jobs next year if Heinz moves production of the sauce to Holland.

The SOS brew has been designed to not only match the colour but also the fruitiness of HP, and pints will be poured from a special HP pump.

The Wellington, currently Birmingham's Camra pub of the year, began selling the 4.2 per cent proof pint this week and Nigel said he was sure it would prove a hit.

"We've all been following the campaign in the Mail. I'm a firm believer in British things staying in Britain, especially HP."

We've teamed up with Mission Print, Digbeth, so readers can buy heavy-duty cotton T-shirts bearing the Mail's SOS logo and sauce splat (pounds 5.50 incl p&p). Order from or from
