We're in league of our own.

Byline: | Martin Cameron

Tommy Wright insists St Johnstone are ignoring the Premiership table and playing in a league within a league this season.

Saints have come under fire after a six-game winless streak that could see them missing out on a top-six finish for the first time in seven seasons.

But ahead of today's trip to Celtic, Wright dismissed talk of under-performing - and says he's fine with Saints' position.

The gaffer said: "There's no panic. We knew this season would be tougher.

"Yes, the players are hurting. The dressing-room hasn't been a good place.

"But the big five clubs are all in the league now, recruiting good players and spending money.

"We're third in a seven-team league. Our position isn't as bad as people say.

"We have to improve. We are aware of the situation and I take responsibility but it's not as bad as some are making out.

"We will come up with a plan this weekend as well but the big thing is to do our jobs properly.

"The players know they can do it."
