CONGRATULATIONS to Birmingham on winning the bid to hold the Commonwealth Games.
But why do I get the feeling this is a poisoned chalice.
As Birmingham was the only bid, have I missed something in the victory? I have grave worries on the financing of the games and I haven't read anywhere about the costing and how much Birmingham is getting from the Government and the Commonwealth Games Committee. Will a 50,000-seat Alexander Stadium have a commercial viability after the games and will the "village" be social housing.
So yes, I'm delighted that Birmingham is going to be the next venue, but somehow I feel there is going to be a bill dropping on my doormat that will soon make my delight a misery.
