The 2002 APS is the fourth annual joint meeting of the American Agricultural Editors' Association (AAEA), the Livestock Publications Council and the ABM Agri Council, formerly known as APA: The Association of Leading Ag Media Companies. This year, the collegiate members of Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow will also be in attendance as the group stages its national convention in conjunction with the 2002 APS.
Hosted at Reno's Silver Legacy Resort and Casino, the 2002 APS is the best opportunity for agrimarketers to mingle with ag journalists. APS not only affords a top program of professional development but a first-rate forum on timely issues, plenty of time to mingle with colleagues and lots of just plain fun.
The Summit kicks off Monday with an afternoon of golf. For non-linksters, there's a clinic on "Design Tips, Tricks and Solving Real Life Issues on Shoestring Budgets," plus a writing workshop by one of AAEA's foremost writers, Joe Dan Boyd.
The highlight of Tuesday's workday will be a luncheon address by George McGovern, U.N. Food Program ambassador. Following that a panel of the world's foremost experts will discuss agro-terrorism.
That night, wear your best bowling shirt for some Bowling Bonanza competition and fun. It will be held in Reno's National Bowling Museum, where all the world-class keglers do their thing.
On Wednesday, Carl Hiebert, one of Canada's top ag photographers and presenter of "A Gift Of Wings," will inspire you. In addition, Wednesday offers a dazzling array of breakout sessions, such as computer maintenance, finding and researching story ideas, photography, electronic graphics and illustration, the use of color and working with freelancers.
On Thursday, Consultant Heather Neely provides insight into cross-generational staff management, and a group of farmer-readers tell you what they want in farm publications.
It all adds up to a "can't miss" event. I hope to see you in Reno! AM
-- Joe Roybal Chairman, 2001 APS Steering Committee
