Waygood hails GB's 'well-oiled' machine.
THE manager of the British dressage team said yesterday their Olympic title victory was made "even better" by the fact that it was the UK's 20th gold medal, surpassing Beijing and the best haul for more than 100 years.
When told what their win meant for the total number of golds won by Team GB, Richard Waygood said: "Ah fantastic, that's even better isn't it? Really special."
Waygood added the three members of the team, watched by a capacity crowd of 20,500 in Greenwich - veteran Carl Hester, Charlotte Dujardin and Laura Bechtolsheimer - work together like 'a well-oiled machine'.
He said: "They are all professionals and when you're dealing with professionals they want to win, they want to achieve and they get on fantastically so everything else fits into place with them.
"You saw today real teamwork and good scores throughout.
"And behind the scenes, a well-oiled machine is the phrase that they all use I think, and that's what it is."
The team's wave of success began at the European Championships in 2009 when they bagged a team medal.
Waygood added: "It's gone upwards from there which is fantastic. Now they've got the gold, what's next? All three of them are fantastic role models as well so it's very good."
