WavePhore Bundles Its WaveTop(TM) Push Software With the ADS Channel Surfer Pro

Millions of Existing Home PC Owners Can Receive Internet Content Pushed At
High Speed Without Bottlenecks or Phone Lines

PHOENIX, July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- WaveTop(TM), a Division of WavePhore, Inc. (Nasdaq: WAVO), and ADS Technologies, Inc., a leader in multimedia specialty hardware for the PC, today announced an agreement to bundle WavePhore's WaveTop software with all ADS Channel Surfer TV add-in cards. The bundled product enables millions of home PC owners to make their computer ready to receive both TV and "pushed content" without tying up their phone line or encountering bottlenecks on the Internet.

The Channel Surfer Pro from ADS is an internal card which changes the computer into a multimedia center. Now, users can watch live TV, cable, or video on their computer monitor. The video screen is a scalable window, allowing users to watch video and run computer programs simultaneously. The Pro allows instant switching between TV, PC, and video sources allowing the user to change from working on the computer to watching the local news or the latest Hollywood flick. The Channel Surfer Pro also enables the computer to receive data which is sent along with television broadcasts.

"Push" technology is the latest development in the Internet revolution and is the driving concept behind Wavetop software. "Pushed" content is content (information, graphics, files, etc.) "pushed" or sent out to customers. This is in contrast to the traditional "pull" method in which the user must log on to the Internet, search on their own, and then filter out the mountains of irrelevant information. In "push" technology all this work is already done. The user simply turns on the computer and the customized information is already there without the hassle. This is done by offering various personally customized "channels" that send information automatically on one specific topic.

Dubbed the "ultimate push technology" by The Yankee Group, WaveTop operates by embedding data into the existing TV broadcast signals of PBS stations. This high-speed service reaches 99% of U.S. TV households, offering a powerful distribution medium for any content provider. WaveTop will offer a variety of channels including: NewsTop(TM) -- the latest in news, sports, and weather; StockTop(TM) -- up to the minute stock quotes; KidsTop(TM) -- parent approved kids' entertainment and education; FamilyTop(TM) -- current topics on parenting, working women, fashion and

travel; TechTop(TM) -- the latest downloads of freeware, shareware and bug fixes; FunTop(TM) -- samples of the most popular video games, puzzles, comics and many others.

Beginning Fall '97, consumers will be able to buy the ADS Channel Surfer Pro which bundles the WaveTop software, and immediately enable their home PC to receive not only television, but information, entertainment, and Internet content. This content is all free, "pushed" via Wavetop's own Home PC Broadcast Network. WaveTop software will also be available this fall for download from WaveTop's web site for current users of ADS television products. WavePhore and ADS also plan to market the bundle to PC manufacturers interested in offering PCs which can receive TV broadcasts. Consumers can buy the ADS Channel Surfer Pro from major computer retailers and ADS product distributors.

"The future of PC/TV convergence lies in offering consumers a new experience, not simply watching TV on a PC," said Mike McCoy, President and CEO, ADS Technologies, Inc. "The data and content Wave Top provides will change how we watch TV making it more compelling, interactive, and informative. That is why we are adding WaveTop to every ADS Channel Surfer Pro."

"Our alliance with ADS will make it easy and inexpensive for PC owners to enable their home computers to be broadcast-ready and therefore receive WaveTop data broadcasting service as an additional information and entertainment channel," said Patrick Gilbert, vice president, Business Development, WavePhore, Inc.
