Waters buys microcalorimetry company.

Milford, MA 8/28/06 -- Waters has acquired Thermometric AB for $2.5 million. Based in Jarfalla, Sweden, Thermometric manufactures and sells micro-calorimeters and has annual sales of $4 million. Thermometric will be merged with Waters' TA Instruments business, which provides thermal analysis products. "The technologies and products from Thermometric are complementary to our leading position in thermal analysis and will allow us to expand our business into new applications, especially in life science research," said TA Instruments President Terry Kelly.

Calorimetry, particularly microcalorimetry, which measures small amounts of heat, is one of the faster growing sectors of physical property testing. The acquisition is a good fit with TA Instruments and should help introduce microcalorimetry to new users.
