Watch out folks, it's the traffic branch; SPEED COPS LURK BEHIND TREES.

IF you go down to the woods today, you could be in for a big surprise...police officers may be lurking behind a tree waiting to catch speeding drivers.

Angry motorists say the latest tactics are dangerous as they are forced to brake suddenly when they see the speed trap.

These Central Scotland speed cops were pictured last week in Dollar, Clackmannanshire by local resident Mike Day.

He said: "People in the town think the police should just play the game straight, rather than hide in bushes like robbers waiting to pounce on their next victim."

However, Central Scotland Police hit out at any suggestion that its officers' methods were sneaky.

Chief Inspector Donald McMillan, head of the force's road policing unit, said: "At no time would I support any police officer jumping from behind a tree or concealed area.

"But in this instance, the officers were visible and the community aware that road police officers were working in the community."
