Washington follows Idaho's lead. (Insider Report).

Even if Idaho's media largely ignored passage of an anti-UN resolution at the state's Republican Party Convention in mid-June, Vice President Dick Cheney Wasn't happy when he heard about it. His telephone message to an ally in the Gem State included his dismay at what "the loonies in Idaho" were doing.

The Idaho "loonies" had successfully guided their resolution through the resolutions committee and were delighted when the full convention adopted it without debate. Its final paragraph states:

Belt therefore resolved that the Idaho State Republican Party ... respectfully but firmly requests all members of Congress to use appropriate constitutional authority in order to extricate our nation from the threat to freedom posed by the United Nations. We encourage House members to work toward this goal by co-sponsoring H.R. 1146, the American S overeignty Restoration Act. We encourage members of the Senate to introduce a similar measure in their legislative branch.

Republican stalwarts in neighboring Washington then obtained a copy of the Idaho resolution and successfully guided it to passage two weeks later at the Washington State Republican Convention. Employing identical wording appearing in the Idaho statement, the Evergreen State's Republicans added their voices to the growing demand for U.S. withdrawal from the UN. (The Texas GOP platform also calls for getting the U.S. out of the UN. See page 23.)
