Was Bob a Beano comic?

A BEANO comic strip believed to have been drawn by the late Bob Monkhouse has been unearthed.

An expert at Dundee publishers DC Thomson thinks the comic penned a tale about Pansy Potter The Strongman's Daughter in the 1947 Beano Book.

It was discovered after a search through the title's old editions by the company's archivist, Bill McLoughlin.

Monkhouse had claimed to have drawn for them when he was a schoolboy but there had previously been no evidence.

Bill said: "We have selected the 1947 Pansy, as it is in a style different from the rest.

"We can't say definitely but Bob always claimed he did draw for us, and why would he tell porkies about something so easily disproved?" Monkhouse, who was also an actor and game show host, died aged 75 in 2003 after a battle with prostate cancer.
