Warnings of thunder and hail to come; IN BRIEF.

THUNDERSTORMS and heavy rain are set to hit Teesside just days after a spell of glorious sunshine.

The region has been warned to prepare for a possible barrage of torrential downpours, frequent lightning and even hail.

The Met Office have released a yellow weather warning for the North East starting from the early hours, lasting until tomorrow.

The weather service say there will be bouts of heavy rain.

There will then be more extensive thunderstorms which may break out leading to torrential downpours, frequent lightning and a chance of hail.

The heavy rains could see sudden flooding of transport routes, homes and businesses and motorists should plan their routes ahead of time.
