Warning over wild dolphins.

People swimming out to get close to the dolphins off the North East coast are being warned they could prevent them from returning to the open sea.

Hundreds of sightseers have been watching the bottle-nosed dolphins spotted at the mouth of the Wear.

Members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue squad joined Sunderland Volunteer Life Brigade at the marina after reports one of the bottle-nosed dolphins was injured.

Graeme Richardson, area co-ordinator for the squad, said: "We have to remember these are wild animals."
