Warning as car thieves strike.

POLICE have increased patrols in the Battlefield area of Newcastle after an increase in break-ins to cars.

Over recent weeks, police have received a number of reports of break-ins and attempted break-ins to cars parked in the area.

As a result, extra patrols are taking place in the areas to reassure residents as well as prevent offences from taking place. Police are advising residents to report information to police. Neighbourhood Beat Manager PC Dave Maddick said: "I'd like to remind people to make sure their vehicles are locked with nothing left on display, and that valuable items are removed. "We're carrying out additional patrols to prevent offences from taking place and I'd ask anyone who sees any suspicious or unusual activity in their neighbourhood or who has information to get in touch with us."
