Warming up to acrylic: vendors brighten the summer table.

Chicago - Summer is a time for entertaining outdoors. But January is a time to buy acrylic products for the stores, so vendors are showcasing a vide variety of acrylic products for summer fun at this week's International Housewares Show here.

Bemis Manufacturing is introducing Catalina casual tableware/picnicware made of sturdy plastic and available in purple, white, yellow, teal fuchsia blue watermelon, black and Halloween orange. Retail prices range from $.59 to $1.09 Kitchenware is available in clear/white with sealtight lides on applicable pieces and has retail prices ranging from $4.20 to $7.

Carly, the newly formed division of Continental/ SiLite International, a $700 million acrylic manufacturer, is presenting its first line of acrylic tableware during the show. The new firm is marketing a moderately priced tableware and serveware line. The collection consists of beverageware and related serveware accessories, which are predominantly in color. Carly's collection is at popular price points, retailing from $1.95 to $25.

Majestic is showing its new Ultra Frosty Mug, designed to keep beverages color without being diluted by melting ice. The mug's center cylinder can be removed and stacked. Ultra Frosty Mug holds 15 ounces and comes in clear, blue, red, teal and green.

The finn has also introduced a new collection of drinkware accessories, Ice-Stir-Cools. Cubes and coordinating stirrers are filled with a non-toxic, refreezable liquid. They are available in an eight-piece and 16-piece configuration and come in nine themes: gardening tools, sunflowers, fruits, nautical, vegetables, chili peppers, tennis, Holloween and golf.

Precision craft has introduced its new Insulated drinkware line in two sizes: a 12-ounce double old-fashioned and a 16-ounce jumbo. They come both tinted and decorated. Tints include clear, green, plum, periwinkle and teal. They retail for $3.99 each. Decorated drinkware retails at $4.99.

The company has also introecued Candlelamps. The line includes candleholders with come complete with a shade and citronella tealight. There are five colors: green, periwinkle, plum, teal and a clear/frost combination. They will retail for $13.99 each.

Rubbermaid is highlighting its Textured drinkware line during the housewares show. The line contains tumblers in two sizes, a mug with handle, pitchers and serving trays. It comes in clear, purple and cranberry.

Stotter & Norse is introducing novelty insulated drinkware line that includes both 28-ounce mugs and 18-ounce tumblers. Themes include fish, grapes, pineapples and barrel cactus, with retail prices ranging from $4-$6 each.

A two-quart thermal Pump Pot program is available in watermelon, cabana stripes, yacht club patterns and a red gingham patterns, with a retail price of $20.

Several new vinyl placemats that coordinate with new patterns for 1996 include Gingham, Summer Breeze, Strawberry Fields, and Blueberry Vine.

Sage green is being added to the Fishnet program of 22 colors. New colored rim Mexicali styles include frosted cobalt, frosted hunter and frosted aqua. New character stems include clear and aqua seahorses.

Trudeau, formerly Genin Trudeau/Rosti, is highlighting two lines during the International Housewares Show this month: Reflection and Sierra.

Reflection is a cut serveware and beverageware grouping that comes in clear, hunter green and cobalt. The line includes a double old-fashioned, high ball, wine, glute, pitcher, salad bowls, salad servers, round tray and dinnerw plate.

The Sierra line of clear acrylicware includes a double old-fashioned, high ball, pitcher, salad bowls, salad servers, tray, wine cooler/ice bucket, oil and vinegar set, cream and sugar set and salt and pepper set.

The Ullman Company's Fruit Medley ensemble of plates, bowls and platters are colorfully designed dinnerware made in the USA, and microwaveable and dishwasher safe. There is also a matching pitcher, candle, tumblers and napkins.

U.S. Acrylic has added seven new drinkware patterns to its line. The clear acrylic collections are designed for summer and casual entertaining. The company has also introduced a chip and dip tray retailing under $15.

Under the organization category comes a new compact CD holder, faceted storage trays, sweater holder and shoebox. Lastly, there's a photo collage that's new to U.S. Acrylic's line which hold four different siz photos.
