Warm tributes paid to George Johnson.
TRIBUTES have been paid to a Loughborough businessman who has passed away.
George Anthony Johnson was born in 1934 in Nanpantan, Loughborough, the eldest son of George and Mariam Johnson.
He was educated at Loughborough Grammar and Leicester College of Art and Technology. His National Service was spent as a paratrooper and he saw active service in Cyprus and Suez.
Following demobilisation, he joined the family firm, Johnson & Son, quality hosiery manufacturers of Trinity Street in Loughborough.
His wife Anne said: "He was proud to be the sixth generation Johnson to run the firm with his cousin, David."
Anthony and Anne married in 1963 and had four children - Andrew, Ian, Claire and Jeremy. Nine grandchildren followed and all the family live locally.
Anne added: "Anthony loved sport and was a keen golfer with memberships at Charnwood, Rothley, Hollingwell and Luffenham. He enjoyed gardening and his family was kept well supplied with produce from his vegetable garden and allotment.
"Until recent months, Anthony enjoyed good health. He died peacefully on February 6 surrounded by his loving family."
A private family funeral was held at St Paul's Church in Woodhouse Eaves.
