Ward's Reports Estimated Production

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. car and truck production is expected to rise this week to 259,431, up 5.0 percent from a revised tally of 247,160 last week, according to Ward's Automotive Reports.

This week's scheduled output includes an estimated 131,584 cars and 127,847 trucks, including medium- and heavy-duty models. That compares to actual production of 126,321 cars and 120,839 trucks a week ago.

Estimated calendar year U.S. car and truck output through the end of this week stands at 10,793,429, 0.8 percent below the 10,879,888 vehicles produced in same-period 1995.

In Canada, automakers will assemble 53,487 vehicles this week, including 27,290 cars and 26,197 trucks. That represents a 6.8 percent increase from last week's 50,105 -- 30,451 cars and 19,654 trucks. This week's tally will bring total Canadian vehicle production to 2,195,346 for the year, down 1.7 percent from like-1995's 2,233,213.

Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the United States, GM accounts for 33.0 percent; Ford Motor Co., 32.0 percent; Chrysler Corp., 13.1 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 5.1 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. U.S.A. Inc., 3.8 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.0 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.0 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 2.1 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 1.7 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.2 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.5 percent; and other manufacturers, 1.5 percent.
