Want to paint Mendocino?
The rugged beauty of northern California's Mendocino coast has inspired artists and craftsmen for decades. You can find guidance for your own creative inclinations at the Mendocino Art Center--now in its 28th year--in courses in landscape and figure painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, stained glass, and bookmaking.
The summer session, with 50 courses, runs June 7 through early September. Typical fee for a week-long course is $125, perhaps with an additional charge for models or materials.
For a course list, write to M.A.C., attention Sally Elliot, Box 765, Mendocino 95460, or call (707) 937-5818. You can also arrange lodging through the center, for $80 per week for dorm-style accommodations to $175 for a private room.
August 1 through 3, the town will be caught up in a gala Celebration of the Arts, with gallery shows and musical and theater presentations. August 25 through 29, M.A.C. presents a five-day national symposium, "New directions in paper.' In fall, the center offers weekend classes; a schedule will be out later in summer.
