Walter Macken; dreams on paper.

Macken, Ultan.

Mercier Press

448 pages

Walter Macken (1915-67) was an actor who played many roles in his native Ireland, including The Abbey Theatre in Dublin, and on Broadway in New York and in The Quare Fellow and other films, but is best remembered for his writing. Now a successful writer himself, Ultan offers an intimate biography of his father. In addition to his personal memories, he draws on love letters and other papers his father left to explore such parts of his life as childhood and school, marriage and life in London, first plays and novels published, life in Dublin, from actor to full-time writer, major life changes in the late 1950s, the historical trilogy, and The Abbey Theater and Brown Lord of the Mountain. He does not provide an index. Distributed in the US by Dufour Editions.
