Wallis woe as Atom is ruled out.

CHAMPION trainer Mark Wallis yesterday explained why his Ribble Atom has been prevented from running in the Best Car Parks Marathon which starts at Shelbourne Park tonight, writes Jonathan Kay.

The July 2013 veteran has been a regular visitor to Ireland during her career, running in the 2015 Night Of Stars at Shelbourne, reaching the finals of the last two equivalent runnings of this evening's event at Harold's Cross then making a one-off appearance at Kilkenny in July.

Wallis said: "It was a lastminute decision to enter her for the marathon competition on Tuesday morning and, when she was entered, the IGB said they needed her Irish identity book before the draw on Wednesday.

"She was going to be trained by Karol Ramsbottom for the competition and that seems to have been the problem. If she'd been in my name as an international entry I would have been allowed to produce her identity book on the night at Shelbourne.

"I nipped to the post office and used the quickest way of sending it but that still takes 48 hours and it won't have arrived at the IGB offices until Thursday morning so she wasn't accepted for the competition.

"It's frustrating but rules are rules, although you would think there might be a better way of doing things in this day and age.

"It's a shame because she is still fit and well and this extreme distance [1,025 yards] is right up her street."
