DAVID Walliams is to sign comic Catherine Tate to play his love interest in his new BBC sitcom.

The Britain's Got Talent judge is in talks about hiring Catherine for self-penned show Autumn Leaves.

It is set in a secondary school and Catherine, 44, will play a French teacher caught in a love triangle with two colleagues. One of them is a chemistry teacher played by Walliams, 41.

He said: "It's about two teachers who fall in love, but they can't express it to each other."

A TV source said: "Catherine was David's dream lead for the French teacher. They are good friends and he has always wanted to work with her."
