FOUR days of family fun get under way in Stockton today.

Running until Bank Holiday Monday, Stockton's SUMMER SHOW is taking place at Preston Park and is packed with activities and entertainment from 10.30am-5pm daily.

This year there will be animal antics galore throughout the weekend with falconry displays, The Sheep Show shearing demonstrations and Rockin' Horse Productions will wow the crowds with their amazing stunt horse riding show.

Tomorrow the show holds its fun dog show and visitors can bring along their four-legged friends from 11am to win prizes and rosettes in the Northern Mutts and Music judging competitions.

The competition categories include best puppy, waggiest tale, musical sits and best rescue, with one dog being judged best in show.

Entry into each category costs pounds 1 and judging takes place at 1pm.

The show also sees the return of the fantastic, free 500-seat Festival Circus back by popular demand, featuring activities including jugglers, circus clowns and amazing high wire acts.

The aerial theme continues today and tomorrow when Above And Beyond give their amazing high wire act in the main arena.

Visitors can also soar above the clouds on a helicopter trip. Rides will be available throughout the weekend at costing pounds 30.

Admission to the Summer Show is pounds 3 per adult, pounds 2 for concessions (under-16s and pensioners) and free for under-fives per day.

A park and ride scheme will operate on Sunday and Monday from outside the Swallow Hotel on Stockton High Street and Yarm town centre.

Upping sticks from its regular home at Arc for the night, the monthly comedy crew will pitch up in a the park's Big Top for a special gig tonight with a line-up sees ROGER MONKHOUSE, BILL WOOLLAND and MATT REED.

Tickets for the gig are pounds 9, with the show starting at 8.15pm. Details on 01642 525199.

More Bank Holiday events: * THE sixth HARTLEPOOL COUNTRYSIDE FESTIVAL held on Sunday in Summerhill Country Park from noon-Attractions and activities include dog displays, pony rides, a bouncy castle, fairground rides, a falconry display, face painting and various stalls providing information on countryside, environmental and wildlife issues.

Admission to the festival is free, although there will be small charges for some of the attractions.

Details on 01429 284584. * CHILDREN'S charity DAISY CHAIN is holding its annual Family Fun Day on Monday from noon-4pm. There will be animals, inflatable rides, sensory gardens, toys, games, stalls, face painting, tombola, refreshments and more. Admission is free.

* A FAMILY Fun Day will take place at Hartlepool's Ward Jackson Park on Sunday. The annual AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY SUNDAY FAMILY FUN DAY 2009 will include local bands, children's activities, rides and games, local craft and charities stalls, fun and entertainment for all the family.
