Walk your way to a taut tummy.

Dear Pat,

I was wondering if you could recommend an exercise regime I could do at home.

I have a very flabby tummy and a lot of fat on my hips and bottom.

I am 5'3" and weigh 10 stone six ounces and I just seem to be getting wider and wider. I am also 35 years old.

Is walking is a good exercise?

Anne, Belfast

Dear Anne,

Walking at four mph is a great way of reducing the hips and thighs. But this form of exercise is only effective with a good eating plan.

Cut out fatty foods, sugars and fizzy drinks from your diet and follow our six-week diet plan.

Dear Pat,

I need to lose one and a half stone, mostly on my upper body. Could you tell me which exercises would be best?

Pauline, Kildare

Dear Pauline,

Stick to fast cardio walking on cross trainers or walking machines combined with high repetition weights - three sets of 20 repetitions.

The following exercise equipment can also be used: the bench press, military press, upright rowing, straight arm pull-over, triceps press, bent over rolling, squats, lounges and tummy crunches.

Sticking to a good diet and aim to lose one pound in weight per week and then it will stay off for good
