Waitrose's fast food on M40; RETAIL.

Supermarket chain Waitrose announced plans yesterday to open stores at two of the UK's busiest motorway service stations.

The grocery division of the John Lewis Partnership hopes it will reach nine million new customers through the franchise deal with Welcome Break.

The first 2,500 sq ft shop will open on May 1 at Oxford Services on the M40, one of Europe's busiest motorway service stations, with the second opening at South Mimms on the M25 on May 15.

The smallest ever Waitrose stores will offer more than 850 lines and operate from 7am until 10pm, 365 days a year.

Waitrose, which is about to open its 200th store, in Islington, north London, will create 4,000 new jobs with the opening of 22 new outlets this year..
