WYSE TECHNOLOGY: HEWLETT-PACKARD TO PROVIDE ON-SITE SERVICE FOR WYSE TECHNOLOGY PC AND UNIX-BASED SYSTEMS

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Wyse Technology Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) (NYSE: HWP) announced an agreement today under which HP will provide on-site service and support to customers of Wyse's PCs and UNIX-based systems in the United States and Canada. At the same time, Wyse announced enhancements to its logistic support system for these products.
Under this agreement, end-user customers or value-added resellers (VARs) will continue to contract directly with Wyse for their service needs. Wyse will retain responsibility for problem resolution by determining the end-user need and contacting HP should an on-site visit be necessary. Communication between Wyse and HP will be transparent to end-user customers, who will have a single contact for any service issues relating to their Wyse system. Systems covered under this agreement include Wyse personal computers and the Wyse Series 7000i and Series 9000i, UNIX-based multiprocessing systems supporting from 150 to 400 users.
"We are committed to providing our customers with first-rate service whatever their geographic location, and adding HP as an on-site service provider ensures that we're able to do that. HP's geographic coverage, expertise in multiuser environments, and their reputation as a premier service delivery company, make them the ideal service partner for Wyse systems," said Greg Michael, director of technical support for Wyse's Systems Division.
On-site service will be dispatched by Wyse through HP's Response Center network, which can access 150 service and support offices throughout the United States and 25 in Canada. With Wyse as the latest addition to their multivendor support program, HP currently supports thousands of non-HP products including products from IBM, Compaq and Sun Microsystems.
"Continuing to extend our multivendor support capabilities is a key element of HP's strategy for leadership in the open-systems support market," said Roger A. Costa, general manager of HP's System Support Division. "We are pleased to provide support for Wyse Technology's customers. Our companies' shared commitment to customer satisfaction gives us a firm foundation for a successful relationship."
 Wyse Redesigns Logistics
Wyse has enhanced its logistics support system to ensure that spare parts get to the proper destination in minimal time. Service kits specifically designed for each system and platform will be stocked at both Wyse service headquarters in San Jose, and HP's national logistics headquarters in Roseville, Calif. Kits will also be stocked at HP's support offices for customers with four-hour response time contracts.
