WYSE INTRODUCES FIVE MONITORS TO PROVIDE FULL SPECTRUM OF DISPLAY OPTIONS; MOVES MONITOR UNIT INTO DISPLAY DIVISION TO BUILD BUSINESS

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Wyse Technology Inc. announced today the addition of five monitors, including 15" and 17" high-resolution models, to its current family of color and monochrome monitors. The addition of these products increases the breadth of Wyse's monitor offerings to provide display solutions for a broad range or users' application needs. New are the 17" WY-870, the 15" WY-850 in both standard and low-emission "ES" versions, and low-emission "ES" versions of Wyse's popular WY-655 and WY-670 monitors.
At the same time, Wyse announced it has shifted full responsibility for its monitors business from its Systems Division to its Terminals and Display Products Division. "This organizational move allows us to bring our leadership in terminals and our expertise in display technology to our monitors business. While in the past we offered our monitors primarily as a part of our PC offering, we will now be expanding our efforts to develop this as an independent business," said Arthur Lipton, senior vice president and general manager of the company's Terminals and Display Products Division.
Products For A Full Range of Users Needs
For high-end users with sophisticated graphics needs, Wyse introduced the WY-870, a 17" color monitor. With .26 dot pitch, 1280 x 1024 non-interlaced resolution, the WY-870 presents a sharp display crucial for graphic intensive applications such as professional graphic design, high-end desktop publishing and CAD/CAM. The WY-870 features a flat square screen which provides clarity from edge to edge and eliminates image distortion. A microprocessor-based digital control stores up to 10 preset standard and user-defined modes and provides greater user control over screen adjustments. With multiscanning technology, the WY-870 supports VESA standards and flicker-free refresh rates.
The WY-850 is a 15" color monitor that supports VESA compliant resolution modes up to 1024 x 768 non-interlaced at 70 Hz and provides multiscanning from 30-57 KHz for compatibility with a full range of graphic standards. The 15" flat screen provides 25 percent more viewing area than conventional 14" screens, making it ideal for Windowing environments. The flat screen also presents greater clarity from edge to edge to reduce eye strain.
The WY-850ES, a low emissions version of the WY-850, is available as an option to customers with concerns about electromagnetic emissions. The WY-850ES conforms to the most stringent worldwide regulatory requirements including the Swedish MPRII guidelines for electrostatic, very low and extremely low frequency electromagnetic emissions.
 Low Emission Options
To further expand its line of low emission monitors, Wyse also introduced low emission or ES version of its WY-655 and WY-670 color monitors which also conform to the MPRII guidelines. Designed for color-graphics applications, both monitors feature 14" screens with .28mm dot pitch. The Wy-655/WY-655ES is fully compatible with IBM's VGA standards supporting VGA resolutions up to 640 x 480. The monitor offers ergonomic design features such as conveniently located cluster controls for screen adjustments, a tilt and swivel base for easy viewing and non-glare display to reduce eye strain.
The WY-670/WY-670ES supports a variety of resolutions including 1024 x 768 interlaced, VGA, Super VGA and VESA VGA of 640 x 480 at 72 Hz (vertical) non-interlaced. The WY-670 also offers "autosizing" for high resolution modes where users need to size the display only once with no need for adjustments each time a resolution is switched.
 Pricing, Availability and Distribution
Along with the introduction of these new monitors, Wyse also announced new lower pricing for the standard WY-655 and WY-670. As with other Wyse products, the full line of Wyse monitors is available through distributors and value-added resellers.
All models announced today are available immediately and are priced as follows:
