WYSE: CZECH GOVERNMENT CHOOSES WYSE PRODUCTS TO AID IN FIRST FREE ELECTIONS AND HISTORIC DIVISION OF LAND

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Wyse Technology Inc. announced today that its Central European office has received an additional order from the Czechoslovakian government's Ministry of the Interior, bringing the total to $4.8 million worth of Wyse products sold to the Czech government in the past 15 months.
The new $350,000 purchase calls for Wyse multiuser UNIX-based systems to manage the official split of Czechoslovakia into independent Czech and Slovakian countries, slated for this month. The original $4.5-million order, placed more than a year ago, secured Wyse UNIX-based systems and terminals to establish a nationwide registration network and to perform essential tasks for the country's first free government elections. Wyse's mid-range UNIX-based systems will also be used to calculate taxes and manage internal administrative functions within the Ministry.
 History of Wyse Involvement
The original $4.5-million contract between the Czechoslovakian government and Wyse Technology was signed in September 1991, after five months of negotiation. Wyse was chosen from more than 10 manufacturers that had submitted bids in response to the Czech government's request for proposals.
"The Czech Ministry required compatibility with Informix and Oracle products, as well as reliable follow-up support," said David Everett, senior vice president of sales and corporate marketing at Wyse. "Wyse passed the test in both cases."
The original contract included 130 Wyse UNIX-based systems, featuring true symmetric multiprocessing architecture: 124 Series 7000i systems in county seats throughout the country and six Series 9000i systems in the capitals of Prague and Bratislava; 2,096 WY-120 terminals; and various peripherals and support services. The most recent purchase includes seven Series 6000i systems, upgrades for the Series 7000i and Series 9000i systems and additional peripherals.
Wyse Technology is a leading independent supplier of microprocessor- based products, which include terminals, IBM PC-compatible computers, monitors and UNIX-based multiuser systems. The company sells its products through distributors, value added resellers and original equipment manufacturers. Headquartered in San Jose, Wyse operates sales offices across the United States and in Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Europe.
