WYLE LABORATORIES TO OFFER EARLY RETIREMENT PROGRAM
TO SELECTED SCIENTIFIC SERVICES & SYSTEMS GROUP EMPLOYEES
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Wyle Laboratories (NYSE: WYL) announced today that it will offer an enhanced early retirement package to a selected group of employees in its Scientific Services & Systems Group to be effective Nov. 1, 1992. The eligible group of less than 50 individuals represents about 2 percent of Wyle's work force.
Charles M. Clough, chairman and chief executive officer, said: "The company's Electronics Marketing Group, which accounts for 80 percent of total revenues, continues to record exceptionally strong sales and earnings growth. However, our Scientific Services & Systems Group is experiencing declining business volumes and profit margins in its aerospace and defense markets, and, accordingly, we need to realign the group's cost structure.
"The cost of the enhanced retirement package will be determined by Nov. 1, 1992, once participation in the program is known, and will result in a special charge against earnings in the third quarter ending Oct. 31, 1992. This expense will be recovered in the form of payroll cost savings beginning in the fourth quarter. The charge is not expected to be material to the company's financial position or its earnings for year ending Jan. 31, 1993."
Wyle Laboratories is one of the nation's leading marketers of high-technology electronic products, specializing in semiconductors, computer systems and related value-added services. The company is also a major supplier of research, engineering, testing and support services to the aerospace, defense and energy industries.
