WYLE ANNOUNCES MAJOR EXPANSION PROGRAM; EIGHT NEW LOCATIONS TARGETED THIS YEAR

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Wyle Laboratories (NYSE: WYL) announced today that its Electronics Marketing Group will initiate an expansion program which will significantly increase its geographic market coverage, according to Charles M. Clough, chairman and chief executive officer.
Wyle plans to open eight new facilities in key Eastern and Midwestern markets, which will serve Atlanta; Baltimore/Washington D.C.; Chicago/Milwaukee; Huntsville, Ala.; Minneapolis; North Florida; North New Jersey; and Philadelphia.
These locations are expected to be operational during the second half of the year, staffed with outside and inside sales reps, customer service and product marketing personnel, and field technical support. Currently, Wyle's Electronics Marketing Group serves the Western states and the New England area through 14 sales facilities.
Clough stated: "We've previously indicated our intention to expand Wyle's geographic coverage into other major markets in America. The recently announced merger of Avnet and Hall-Mark has created an opportunity for us to aggressively accelerate our expansion plans both in terms of timing and number of locations.
"Because of our proven track record and established leadership position in value-added services, we anticipate entering these new markets with solid support from our major suppliers, which represent the finest product lines offered in the industry."
Clough commented, "We intend to differentiate Wyle in these new markets in the same way we've successfully done in the West. We will specialize in semiconductors and computer systems products and provide value-added services that enhance the competitiveness of our customers. For example, our kitting and turnkey manufacturing capability, which is Wyle's fastest-growing business, has helped many of our customers reduce costs and accelerate their time-to-market cycle.
"We will also emphasize higher-complexity, user-configurable products supported by our IDEAL(R) centers and field technical personnel. Wyle enjoys an industry-leading position in this area, particularly in providing semiconductor design, engineering and testing services through our five IDEAL centers.
"This expansion will also favorably impact our previously announced partnership with TTI of Fort Worth, Texas. TTI, an industry leader in passive and electromechanical components, already serves each of these markets, and the local Wyle personnel will now accelerate our joint efforts to serve the customer movement toward outsourcing and material management.
"Joe Adamczyk, president of the Electronics Marketing Group, will assume overall responsibility for the expansion program and will be dedicated full-time to implement these plans. During this interim period, individuals reporting to Joe will report directly to Ralph Ozorkiewicz, president and chief operating officer of Wyle."
Clough concluded: "Recent industry consolidation has created a tremendous opportunity for Wyle. We are uniquely positioned to bring a strong semiconductor product line and meaningful value-added services into new markets that will offer significant benefits to customers."
