 WYETH-AYERST ANNOUNCES PRESIDENT OF R&D
 PHILADELPHIA, March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert I. Levy, M.D., 54, has


been appointed president of Wyeth-Ayerst Research. In this position, Dr. Levy will be responsible for the worldwide research and development efforts of Wyeth-Ayerst, the pharmaceutical division of American Home Products Corporation (NYSE: AHP). He will report to Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories' President Fred Hassan.
 John R. Stafford, chairman and chief executive officer of American Home Products, stated, "We are more committed to research and development than ever before, and Dr. Levy's appointment is another major step in developing a world-class R&D program for the future."
 Added Fred Hassan, president of Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories, "We know that Dr. Levy's abilities in the world of science, as well as his experience in industry and government, will help Wyeth-Ayerst strengthen our pharmaceutical research and development capabilities in the years to come."
 Dr. Levy, who had served as president of the Sandoz Research Institute for the past four years, has had a long and distinguished career in research and research management in both government and academia. He was vice president for health sciences and professor of medicine at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons (1983-1987) and vice president for health sciences, professor of medicine and dean of the Tufts University School of Medicine (1981- 1983). Dr. Levy also served at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). His 18-year tenure at NIH included pathfinding work in the areas of cholesterol, lipids, lipoproteins, atherosclerosis and heart disease. During his last six years at NIH he served as director of the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute.
 Dr. Levy is a graduate of Cornell University and Yale University School of Medicine Cum Laude. He is a member of numerous honorary and professional societies including Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Omega Alpha, the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, the American College of Cardiology and Atherosclerosis Council of the American Heart Association. He has authored over 300 scientific publications.
