WXYZ-TV/CHANNEL 7 AND WJLB RADIO FM 98 KICK OFF
 1992 'COATS FOR KIDS' CAMPAIGN
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 and WJLB Radio FM 98 announce the 11th annual "Coats for Kids" campaign. "Coats for Kids" is a public service campaign that collects and distributes new and like-new coats to school-aged children in need. "Coats for Kids" runs now through Nov. 29, 1992.
As co-sponsors of "Coats for Kids" 1992, WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 and WJLB Radio FM 98 will broadcast public service announcements and coordinate fund-raising events. Joining WJLB FM 98 and WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 as corporate sponsors in this campaign are Michigan Consolidated Gas Company and Kroger. The spokespersons for "Coats for Kids" are Rob Kress, WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 weatherman for the "Midday" and 5 p.m. "Action News," and Mason of WJLB's "Mason & Company."
"Coats for Kids" was conceived in 1981 by Booth America Broadcasting, parent company of WJLB Radio, in response to the needs of the "new poor" who emerged after large-scale plant closings and lay-offs in big industrial centers. The 1992 campaign represents the fourth consecutive year that WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 has joined WJLB to sponsor "Coats for Kids." Since the first coats were donated by metro Detroiters in 1982, more than 110,000 coats have been given to school-aged children.
New and like-new children's coats, sizes 6 to 16 can be donated at more than 80 locations in metropolitan Detroit. Drop-off sites include 70 area Kroger locations along with 10 Michigan Consolidated Gas sites in the Detroit metropolitan area. The coats collected will be distributed by The Salvation Army. For information on how to donate or receive a coat, call 313-962-9800.
Monetary contributions to "Coats for Kids" are also warmly welcomed. Donations in the form of check or money order should be made payable to Coats for Kids and sent to:
