WTGI-TV 61 AND WUSL-FM ANNOUNCE JOINT VENTURE TO PRODUCE
LOCAL MUSIC VIDEO PROGRAM; SHOW TO DEBUT MARCH 15
PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- MTV, VH-1 and BET, move over. Philadelphia soon will have a music video program of its very own.
WTGI-TV 61 and WUSL-FM (Power 99) today announced an agreement to produce "Power TV," an hour-long music video program that will air on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m., beginning March 15.
"We are very excited about this," said Dan Slape, general manager of WTGI-61. "Never before have a Philadelphia radio station and television station teamed up to produce a video entertainment program targeted to a young, urban audience."
The urban, rap and rhythm and blues-oriented show will be hosted by Power 99's Stanley "T," Philadelphia's No. 1-rated evening disc jockey. "Power TV" will feature appearances by popular recording artists and Philadelphia-area guest celebrity "veejays," weekly countdowns of Philadelphia's top nine most-requested videos, celebrity profiles and music and entertainment news. Segments of each program will be shot on location around the city.
The premiere show will kick off with rhythm and blues A&M Records recording artists Mint Condition.
"We're very proud to be teaming up with Channel 61 to play Philly's hottest videos," said Dave Allan, Power 99 program director. "Now you've 'got the power' on radio and TV."
According to Slape, WTGI-TV 61 is the only television station in the city that dedicates Sunday prime-time hours to local programming appealing to the African-American community. "Our mission is to bring entertainment programming to the various ethnic markets in the Delaware Valley," he said. "African-Americans are the single largest ethnic group in the city. 'Power TV' will strengthen and lend credibility to our existing 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday block of African-American-oriented programming."
WTGI-TV 61 is an independent, commercial television station that has been broadcasting since 1986. It is the only multi-ethnic television broadcaster in the Philadelphia region, delivering entertainment and informational programming to ethnic and special interest groups in English and other languages.
In addition to carrying foreign language programming by networks Telemundo (Spanish) and RAIUSA (Italian), WTGI-TV 61 airs programs in Asian-Indian, Greek, Polish and Ukrainian, among other languages.
