WRC-TV COMPLETES RETRANSMISSION CONSENT DEAL WITH MEDIA GENERAL CABLE SYSTEMS IN VIRGINIA

 WASHINGTON, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- WRC-TV announced today that the National Broadcasting Company, Inc., has reached an agreement with Media General Cable, giving the company the right to continue carrying WRC-TV on its cable systems in Fairfax County and Fredericksburg, Va.
 Under the seven-year agreement, Media General has agreed to renew and extend on an enhanced basis its carriage of CNBC, NBC's business and consumer news channel. In addition, Media General has agreed to distribute "America's Talking," a new NBC news-talk cable programming service, to its full-service subscribers in Fairfax County.
 Allan S. Horlick, president and general manager of WRC-TV, which is owned by NBC, said, "The agreement recognizes the substantial value of the WRC-TV broadcast signal to the Media General cable systems."
 Horlick said he was "pleased with the agreement because it ensures that viewers in Fairfax County and Fredericksburg will continue to receive WRC on their cable systems without interruption."
 Thomas E. Waldrop, chairman and CEO of Media General Cable, said, "We are pleased our cable viewers will continue to enjoy the outstanding programming of NBC, WRC-TV, CNBC plus the new cable network, `America's Talking.'"
 Media General owns the largest cable system in the Washington area, serving 203,000 subscribers in Fairfax County. It also owns a cable system in Fredericksburg that serves about 15,000 subscribers.
 NBC has reached retransmission consent agremeents with 13 other cable operators that carry the signals of NBC Television Stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, Denver, and Miami.
 In the Washington area, besides Media General, agreements have been reached with Tele-Communications, Inc. (TCI), Time Warner, Adelphia Communications, Columbia International and Jones Intercable, which carry WRC-TV on cable systems in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
