CONTRACTOR FOR $4 MILLION SEMI-CONDUCTOR SYSTEMS CONTRACT
JACKSON, Miss., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Worldwide Forest Products Inc. (NASDAQ: WOOD) announced today that its Texas-based SMC subsidiary has been named the primary certified contractor for the production of precision metal components used in the framework of silicone wafer processing systems for the semi-conductor industry. The contract was awarded by a major manufacturer of semi-conductor materials processing systems based in California which has gross revenues in excess of $800 million. This first contract is valued at approximately $4 million per year and is expected to last three to five years.
The selection process for this contract involved the evaluation of quality-control procedures and manufacturing capabilities of more than 40 companies over a six-month period. This is the first of three contracts under negotiation with the same company having an aggregate total of approximately $15 million per year. "Our selection as primary certified contractor is a tremendous vote of confidence in our ability to produce top-quality product which meets very stringent standards for both domestic and international distribution," said Michael C. Qualls, SMC chief executive officer. "SMC takes pride in the statement -- Made in America."
SMC, a 43 year-old company, fabricates precision metal products, electronic circuitry and computer components for automotive, security, military and other commercial applications where precise dimensions and premium quality are essential. David E. Wise, chairman of Worldwide Forest Products said, "SMC has an industry reputation for innovative product development and was recently designated a certified 'Q-1' manufacturer for Ford Motor Co. signifying superior manufacturing capabilities."
Worldwide, through its subsidiaries, manufacturers precision metal products and pressure treated wood products for distribution throughout North America and internationally.
