WORKING MOTHER MAGAZINE NAMES FANNIE MAE ONE OF 100 BEST COMPANIES FOR WORKING MOTHERS

WASHINGTON, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) (NYSE: FNM), the nation's largest source of home mortgage funds, announced today that it has been named one of the "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" in 1993 by Working Mother magazine.
In selecting Fannie Mae, the magazine noted that half of the professionals at Fannie Mae -- and one-third of all vice presidents -- are women. The company's chief credit officer, its treasurer and one member of its board of directors are women.
"The majority of the 3,000 Fannie Mae employees are women, and many are working mothers," said Ann Logan, executive vice president and chief credit officer, one of Fannie Mae's highest-ranking officers and herself a mother of two young children. "That's why we provide a wide range of benefits and programs that specifically help working mothers meet the challenges that a career and raising a family bring."
Fannie Mae operates an on-site employee emergency child care center at its headquarters in Washington. The center is designed to provide employees temporary, affordable child care assistance for children from 6 months to 12 years old, with employees paying a nominal daily fee.
According to Leon Hollins, vice president for human resources, the company also provides a number of other "family-friendly" benefits for working parents, including two weeks paid adoption leave, two weeks paid leave for new parents, a family resource library and services, lunchtime seminars on parenting and other family issues, overnight child care reimbursement for employees who travel regularly on business, use of a private on-site fitness center at reduced rates, as well as a child care resource and referral service.
"It makes all the business sense in the world to provide these benefits and services that enable our employees to be more productive," Hollins said.
The Working Mother 100 are selected and ranked in categories using the following criteria: pay (as compared to the competition), opportunities for advancement, support for child care, and family friendly benefits such as job-protected leave for childbirth, adoption aid, and part-time employment. This is their eighth "Best 100 Companies" survey.
Fannie Mae is a congressionally chartered, shareholder-owned company and is the nation's largest source of funds for home mortgages.
