WORD UP! WANT TO MAKE A REAL STATEMENT WITH YOUR DECOR? WHY NOT SPELL IT OUT CLEARLY WITH THESE QUIRKY PIECES.

PICTURES may paint a thousand words, but sometimes it's good to just cut to the chase and say how you feel, rather than hoping someone will pick up on it. I'm saying this as someone who is a notorious bottler - in every way!

If there is a confrontation to be had, I am the avoider and don't say what I really want to. If there are strong emotions to be felt, I am also the one who will store them all up and not say what I really mean.

A fear of offending, a fear of confrontation, all those things stop me from getting the words out, which is why I prefer to put them on paper. Or walls, or indeed anywhere around the house rather than say the darn things out loud!

My house is awash with words, all of them loving and cheerful, and hopefully conveying the feelings that I want my family to feel.

There's a love sign hanging off the banister and spelled out in lights on the landing. In my kitchen, there's a wooden sign currently resting on the floor against the wall because I can't think where I want to put it (it's been there for months now). It says simply 'Happiness is a journey, not a destination'.

This is something I really believe in - I think we spend far too long thinking that we will be happy once we get somewhere else, or have something different, whereas the trick is to actually be happy while you're on the road to wherever you're heading.

Coffee storage tin (from set of five), PS20, Butter Me Up butter dish, PS5, panda stackable mugs set of two, PS4, Good Egg slogan egg cups set of two, PS2, Pour Me milk jug, PS3, all Energise range from George at Asda THESE make a cute little set, don't they? Even the most ardent of lactose avoiders could be swayed by the Butter Me Up plea! And who doesn't like being told they are a good egg? Tea and coffee shelf, PS120, Not OnThe High Street PERFECT for those of us who work from home and like to make our productive space feel less like a spare room and more like a proper office, this shelf is the equivalent of the staff room - even if it is a staff room of one!

Go Bananas printed apron, PS7.99, H&M I AM the first to admit that cooking is not my forte, but I am an absolute sucker for an apron. I don't know if it's because it makes me look the part while not really delivering the goods, but I have a few of them in my kitchen. I sometimes wear them just for eating especially when I'm wearing a white outfit.

Scrabble cushions, PS19.95 each, The Letter Room TWELVE points may not count for much in the grand old game of Scrabble, but these cushions are invaluable in the sentiment.
