CHICAGO, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Wonderware Corp. (NASDAQ: WNDR) chose the opening of the ISA '93 Show here today to announce a series of new products, performance enhancements and new pricing for its popular NetDDE(TM) connectivity software family.
The new products include a suite of software development kits (SDKs) that allow UNIX computer users to add Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) and NetDDE capabilities to applications running in the most popular UNIX operating system versions, facilitating the exchange of data with other operating environments such as Windows and VAX/VMS. SDK's will be available in October for AIX, SunOS, HP-UX and SCO versions of UNIX.
The enhancements include the addition of Wonderware's fastDDE(TM) protocol to all NetDDE SDKs. fastDDE can achieve as much as 100 times higher performance while remaining fully compliant with the standard DDE protocol. Thousands of applications on the market use the DDE protocol.
NetDDE also now supports the popular TCP/IP protocol used in network data transmission, including NetDDE for Windows support for FTP and Net Manage variants of Microsoft Corp.'s Windows Sockets standard. In addition, a new client application called DDEView(TM) has been built into NetDDE for Windows to simplify data transfers to and from the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet program. This new application is menu- driven and provides the ability to cut-and-paste real-time and historical data from many applications on many nodes across a network.
"The single, overriding purpose of the NetDDE family of products is to provide customers with an easy-to-use but powerful set of tools with which to link disparate computing environments for implementing enterprise-wide connectivity," explained Michael R. Gonzalez, vice president of product marketing. "Our NetDDE and structured query language (SQL) access products complement our popular InTouch(TM) man- machine interface (MMI) software and give users an ideal way to gather and share data throughout their companies, from the factory floor all the way up to the MIS department.
"An important aspect of Wonderware's connectivity solutions is that customers can leverage their investment in UNIX and VAX legacy systems by linking them with NetDDE and InTouch," he said.
To make these powerful capabilities more affordable, Wonderware has reduced list prices for many of its NetDDE products. The SDKs for NetDDE for Windows, NetDDE for VMS and the AIX, HP-UX and SunOS variants of NetDDE for UNIX are priced at $5,000 each. This is a reduction fr$?10,000 pe SDK for the VMS product. The SCO UNIX toolkit is list priced at $2,500. Special bundled pricing will be available for customers with multiple platforms who wish to purchase all of the SDK variants.
Pricing for the NetDDE software modules used at each network node start at $150 per node, a reduction from $249 per node. Volume discount pricing is available for bundles of 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 nodes, with the 100-unit Windows license selling for $60 per node.
All of the new NetDDE products will begin shipping next month.
