WOMAN DIES IN CAR RALLY.

Byline: PAUL O'HARE

A WOMAN was killed yesterday while taking part in a car rally with her husband.

Susan and Duncan Cameron, of Fordoun, near Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire, were on stage three of the Isle of Mull rally when their car hit a tree.

Mrs Cameron, 46, who was co-driving for her husband, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, between Torloisk and Lagan Ulva, just after midnight.

Mr Cameron, 45, was not hurt.

The couple had been racing in their Peugeot 206 when it left the road.

The three-day Isle of Mull rally is held every October.

This year 160 cars are taking part in the event, organised by the 2300 Club from Black-burn in Lancashire.

The event was suspended after the crash but resumed later.

A statement from the club said: "This decision has been supported by Duncan, his family and his service crew... he would also like to express his sincere thanks and appreciation for the prompt action of paramedics, officials and others involved."

The community around the couple's countryside cottage spoke of their shock last night.

Anna Cameron (no relation) said: "She has died doing what she loved. He will have to be very brave."
