WOLTERS KLUWER AGREES TO ACQUIRE SPRINGHOUSE CORP.
Springhouse publishes information and continuing education materials for the nursing profession, including such magazines as Nursing 2000, Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Management, Dimensions of Critical Care Nursing and Physician Assistant. The company also produces annual directories, including "CareerDirectory," "HealthCare Recruitment Guide" and "APN SourceBook," as well as reference books, textbooks, licensing exam reviews and software, anatomical charts and a number of national conferences, including the "Nursing Management Congress."
The company also operates "SpringNet," a Web site that provides segmented online communities for nurses and students. Springhouse, which will become a part of WK's International Health & Science (WKIHS; Philadelphia, PA) division, has 250 employees with 1999 revenue of about $59 million.
WKIHS ceo Herman Pabbruwe said the deal "supports our strategy of expanding our role in health and clinical publishing." Springhouse, at the time a private company, was acquired by Reed Elsevier precursor Elsevier Business Press (Randolph, NJ) in 1988.
