WOLLONGONG ENHANCES OSI PRODUCT FAMILY TO CCITT 1988 STANDARDS
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wollongong Group Inc., today announced at UniForum in San Francisco that it began shipping its new versions of OSI products with the Release 2.1 of WIN/MHS and WIN/DS, two flagship products in the WIN/OSI product line. With this latest announcement, the Wollongong Group is one of the first vendors to offer full implementations of messaging and directory services based upon the CCITT 1988 standards.
"These new releases are another step towards realizing our objective to bring OSI products into mainstream networking," said Herbert J. Martin, president of Wollongong. "We've succeeded in leveraging our strong roots in TCP/IP to develop protocols for tomorrow's generation of communications solutions." WIN/MHS CAPABILITIES
WIN/MHS is a GOSIP (Government Open Systems Interconnection Profile) compliant electronic messaging system that provides the services specified in the 1984 and 1988 CCITT X.400 international standards. In addition, it may be used as a gateway between Internet hosts (using SMTP-based Mail), Message Transfer Agents or gateways using X.400, or as a central "post office" for an organization's internal electronic mail.
WIN/MHS is also a store-and-forward mail system which complies with the 1988 X.400 MT-kernel profile for a co-located Message Store and Message Transfer Agent (MTA), and supports the X.400 P1 protocol. The MTA will carry any of the following messages body parts: text, TELEX, voice/digitized audio, G3FAX, TIF0, TIF1, TELETEXT, VIDEOTEXT, encrypted data, IPM, SFD, ODIF, as well as nationally, bilaterally, or externally defined formats. This release also includes extensive logging facilities and administrative control via a real-time X.11 Windows-based utility for monitoring and managing mail traffic. FEATURES OF WIN/DS
WIN/DS is a powerful application and programming environment which allows network users and administrators to realize the full potential of their large-scale networks by providing rich directory access and control facilities. Based on the CCITT 1988 X.500 and ISO/IEC 9594 international Open Systems standards, WIN/DS provides the Directory Services described in those standards.
WIN/MHS and WIN/DS 2.1 are available in two versions, one for SCO UNIX and a second version for UNIX System V/386 Release 3.2 as implemented by AT&T, Intel and Interactive systems. Both products are currently shipping. The product is available in binary and source form for OEMs.
