 WOLLONGONG ANNOUNCES NEW TCP/IP RELEASE
'INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH' PRODUCT NOW SUPPORTS SCO UNIX
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Jan 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wollongong Group Inc., today announced at UniForum in San Francisco WIN/TCP for STREAMS Release 4.1.3. The new release is packaged to include software for SCO UNIX as well as UNIX implementations from Intel, AT&T, and Interactive Systems. With this release, resellers need to stock only one TCP/IP for all of the most popular UNIX System V/386 implementations.
WIN/TCP for STREAMS connects UNIX Systems computers to any other computers which support the TCP/IP suite of protocols. The protocols in this recent release from Wollongong maximize network performance and ensure dependable communication, using minimal computing resources.
"This latest release of WIN/TCP for STREAMS is an industrial strength TCP/IP," said Herbert J. Martin, president of The Wollongong Group. "This new version allows our current WIN/TCP customers to maximize existing investments in networking solutions while moving forward to new and emerging protocols such as OSI."
WIN/TCP for STREAMS is architecturally independent of any particular network topology. Support of the Logical Link Interface (LLI), defined for UNIX System V by AT&T, makes it possible for the user to take advantage of a variety of third party vendors' network interfaces, including Ethernet, X.25, Token Ring, FDDI and ISDN. Device drivers from 3COM, Western Digital, Intel and Tiara are also included.
In Local Area Network support, WIN/TCP includes a selection of device drivers compatible with several popular Ethernet network interface adapters. Wide Area Network support is provided by the addition of X.25 network interfaces and compatible device drivers, available from third party hardware vendors.
WIN/TCP for STREAMS user-level applications provide powerful services such as file transfer, electronic mail, and virtual terminal access which allow users to log in to remote hosts. User-level applications include Remote Shell, Remote Login, Remote Copy, Remote Who, Background File Transfer, and Talk, among others.
Included in this WIN/TCP for STREAMS release is a network management compatible with any network management station that conforms to the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). The SNMP agent is compatible with Wollongong's Management Station, Release 2.0, and other RFC 1157-compliant SNMP management stations.
WIN/TCP for STREAMS can serve as the network transport for applications that conform to CCITT and ISO international standards for Open Systems Interconnection (OSI). The transport protocols also coexist with OSI transport protocols in systems that need to support dual stacks. With members of the WIN/OSI product family on a 386/i486 PC UNIX system, WIN/TCP for STREAMS can provide the cornerstone of any enterprise's plan to make the transition from TCP/IP to OSI.
WIN/TCP for STREAMS is currently shipping. The product is available in binary and source form for OEMs.
