BURLINGTON, Mass., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- With its new management team completed, Ontos, Inc. today announced it has streamlined the organization to pursue more effectively and efficiently its company mission -- providing powerful technology that enables flexible, enterprise-wide application software development.
Ontos has simplified its organizational structure, creating four business units aligned to the company's strategic priorities: Customer Support and Service; Commercial and Federal Sales; Product Development and Quality; and Strategic Alliances. Ontos President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Cannon has created a seven-person management council comprised of the company executives directly responsible for driving each strategic priority.
These moves cap a six-month period during which Ontos added five senior-level executives to enhance the company's management depth.
Ontos is now well positioned to help customers migrate object technology from scientific and technical applications to mainstream commercial systems, according to Cannon.
"Developing rich, extensible technologies for deployment in mission-critical commercial and government applications has been and remains the focus of this company," Cannon said. "With the team we now have in place, I believe we're in the best position ever to do so successfully. And the organizational structure we're implementing reinforces our ability to deliver those riches to our customers and help customers fully capitalize on the power and flexibility inherent in Ontos' technology."
Ontos, a pioneer in the field of object-oriented database management systems, is leveraging its expertise and specific unique capabilities in object technology to develop a means for large organizations to create an object cohesive enterprise -- a highly flexible and scalable information systems (IS) infrastructure that at long last allows IS professionals and business managers to speak the same language. In an object cohesive enterprise, IS can respond as quickly to business needs as business managers must respond to their customers.
 Management Team Responsibilities
Ontos' Customer Support and Service operation is led by Vice President Nanci Anderson. Anderson was formerly the Director of U.S. Client Services at Cognos Corporation before joining Ontos in June, 1993.
Sales leadership is divided between vice president Kirk Arnold, who focuses on commercial markets, and vice president Aileen Black, in charge of sales to the federal government. Arnold was previously IBM's business unit executive, financial services group before joining Ontos in June, 1993. Black joined Ontos in December, 1991 from Oracle Corporation where she was director of national accounts for the intelligence community and area manager for the CIA, Army Intelligence, and Navy Intelligence.
Chris Walters is vice president in charge of Ontos' product development. Walters joined Ontos in April, 1992 from Boston Technology, Inc., where he served as engineering director and vice president of research and development.
Ontos' quality assurance process is overseen by Susan Dye, director of quality. Before joining the management team at Ontos in August, 1993, Dye was director of development and QA at ExpertViews, and quality consultant to several Fortune 500 companies.
Cannon has assigned two senior executives to focus on pursuing strategic alliances for Ontos. They are Lynn Currier, senior vice president of business development, and Tim Andrews, Ontos' chief technology officer. Currier came to Ontos in 1991 from senior sales and marketing positions at Bachman Information Systems, whose Northeast Regional Sales and Support organization increased revenues from $1 million to $12 million annually under her leadership.
Andrews, an Ontos co-founder, designed several database systems and was the former chairman of the ANSI/SPARC object-database standards task group before joining Ontos in 1986 as a key member of the initial design team. His unique background in object technology, database implementation and technical marketing has led to key roles in Ontos' technical and strategic direction and extensive involvement in critical business relationships.
"Strategic alliances are a critical factor to virtually every company in today's information technology industry," Cannon noted. "The complexity of customer environments precludes any one vendor from having all the answers. We recognize the importance of teaming up with organizations that can marry our technology to other system elements to create a comprehensive solution for a customer."
Ontos, Inc. is the worldwide performance leader and developer of distributed object database management systems and application development tools. Ontos DB is used by several hundred users in production applications in telecommunications, utilities, manufacturing, finance, insurance multi-media and government programs. Ontos has sales offices throughout the U.S., a U.K. subsidiary, and distributors in Europe, the Pacific Rim and South America.
